What to do (and not do) with an IRS Notice
As a reminder, the IRS (and many other tax agencies) will never reach out to you via email, phone or text, without first sending you a snail-mail letter regarding the issue.
DON’T PANIC – A letter from the IRS does not automatically mean something is wrong with your return. It is usually about a specific item on your return or account. The notice will tell you about a proposed change to your tax return or account or could be asking for additional information. Over this past year, you may have also received additional informational notices about COVID Economic Impact Payments or the Advance Child Tax Credits
